ACCIDENTS AND PERSONAL INJURY
I f
you are in an accident of any sort, it is important that you preserve
your rights to the fullest extent. Here are some tips that may help:
- Be careful when discussing
the case with the police or your insurance company. Only state
what you definitely know and try to avoid speculation. Don't let
others put words in your mouth.
- Do not speak to the
other party's insurance company.
- Attend to your injuries
immediately. If you require medical attention, seek it. If you
have medical payment coverage on your own insurance it is okay
to use it. Follow the doctor's advice.
- Keep a record of all
of your expenses related to the claim. Keep copies of your medical
records and bills. Document your lost income, mileage and incidental
expenses.
- DO NOT sign
any releases or any documents you don't understand without an
attorney's advice.
- If you have been given
a traffic citation, retain an attorney to handle it. Even if you
are partly at fault you may be able to recover if the other party
is more than 50% liable.
The sooner you have an
attorney on your case the more effective he or she can be!
